Miguel Cotto has had a difficult 2009, inside and outside of the ring.
If a very public break-up with his longtime manager, a grueling bout with Joshua Clottey, and a vicious beating from Manny Pacquiao were not enough, today reports from Puerto Rico state that a lawsuit has been filed accusing Cotto of sexual harassment.
The accuser, Martha Chacon Acevedo is asking for $500,000 for claims of sexual harassment by Cotto in a law suit which was filed back in August.
Acevedo, formerly an administrator of Cotto’s residential property, had been pursued by Cotto, gave into his sexual advances, and then claims she lost her job due to breaking off the relationship in October, 2008.
In the Puerto Rican media, Cotto claims that his innocent of all claims and will leave the matters in the hands of his legal team.
Miguel Cotto has never been portrayed as an angel, with his love of the Puerto Rican nightlife well documented, but being accussed of sexual harassment is different than reports of Cotto going out clubbing late into the Caribbean night.
Is Cotto innocent, or guilty, only the Puerto Rican legal system can make that judgement, but it is safe to say that the calendar cannot flip from 2009 to 2010 fast enough for the once rising boxing super star.
