Bob Arum wrong about his Yankee Stadium facts  | read this item

Promoter Bob Arum wrote an innocent column for the Las Vegas Sun which has been picked up by numerous boxing websites that has a glaring error.

I guess the Hall of Fame promoter figured he’d get in a plug for his Thursday press conference at the new stadium featuring Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto by discussing a little history of the previous great and historic fights held next door at the old stadium.

As I say, it was innocent. The principals involved, Joe Louis and Max Schmeling are deceased and I don’t believe Arum loaned his license out to anyone else back then.

Arum, reminiscing about the famous second fight in 1938, stated that Schmeling knocked out Louis in the 12th round of their first fight to win the world title in 1936.
Arum is factually correct except Louis didn’t hold the title then
Louis won the title in 1937 from Jimmy “Cinderella Man̶
